Junior / Intermediate Designer (2 to 5 years of experience)
Neutral Studio is the in-house architectural practice of Neutral, a leading real estate developer specializing in sustainable multifamily construction—including the tallest mass timber building in the U.S.
Based in San Jose, CA, the studio oversees every aspect of design for new mixed-use developments in Wisconsin, Arkansas, and California.
We’re looking for a Junior / Intermediate Designer to join our team and contribute to the end to end lifecycle of our multifamily development projects from feasibility studies to execution. Learn more at www.neutral.us.
Responsibilities
- Engage in all stages of project development, from feasibility studies to construction documentation and administration.
- Collaborate with internal and external design teams, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies, and vendors to achieve project goals.
- Work with the in-house team to streamline documentation and BIM operations.
- Research and integrate sustainable materials and building technologies into the design process.
- Coordinate with suppliers and the construction management team to refine drawings and quotes for the Bill of Materials (BOM) and financial models.
- Develop detailed construction drawings (up to 100% CD level) and permitting sets under the supervision of the principal architect.
- Create 2D and 3D visual materials to convey design to both internal and public audiences.
- Participate in interior and industrial design efforts, shaping retail and amenity spaces across Neutral’s portfolio.
Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years of experience working with internationally recognized design studios.
- Professional Degree in Architecture, Product Design or Interior Design from an accredited program, or an associated field of study.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software—Rhino and Revit required.
- Working knowledge in Building Information Modeling (BIM) up to LOD 400 and parametric design software, including Grasshopper, is required.
- Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or SketchUp.
- Passionate about exploring newly available tools to improve workflow.
- Experience with residential and/or mixed use development.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes and accessibility requirements.
- Experience with design and build contractors or relevant supply chain partners is a plus.
- State licensure and LEED accreditation are a plus.
- Environmental modeling capabilities are a plus.
- Good communication skills.
- Hybrid work model: Must be available for in-person work in the Silicon Valley office three days per week.
